Masters of maintenance kick start their new business with BizGiver Grant

Wellington-based new kids on the building block JAW Maintenance, are off to a winning start as receivers of the $2000 BizGiver Grant.

Can they fix it? Yes, they can! JAW Maintenance is in the business of getting the job done, from plastering and painting to gardening and beyond, there’s no task too big or too small. They help clients who may need a hand with simple repairs around the house to large-scale commercial/ industrial jobs whilst also providing a relief service for civil construction with heavy machinery operations. Make sure your business insurance is well maintained!

Owner Joshua Walkey sums up the company’s go-getter attitude as “You would be hard-pressed to find something that we couldn’t tackle”.

After being handy his whole life, Joshua frequently found himself as “Mr-fix-it”, regularly helping out family and friends by doing small jobs.

This was when he discovered a niche in the market for the small jobs people sometimes struggle to find someone to do. He states “It also gives me the opportunity to get out in my community, meeting new people and doing the work I love” an aspect of the job he adores.

Taking a good idea and creating it into a small business can often be one of the biggest challenges of starting out and one which Joshua thanks solely to one person, his wife, Amy who was a driving force to making JAW Maintenance a reality.

“She gave the confidence and strength to take on such a task, without her the company wouldn’t exist.”

Just like most small businesses starting off can be costly, and as the business grows so can the wish list for extra funds to help get the job done.

When asked what winning the BizGiver Grant would mean for JAW Maintenance, Joshua expressed “Winning will mean we can get the right tools for the job, we can take on more work and do the best job we can do for our amazing clients!”

The grant will also help go towards purchasing a trailer to add to their fleet, meaning they will be able to take on bigger jobs, something which is now a bright reality for this thriving small business.
