A Mechanics Guide to Understanding SEO

Want to be in the know about SEO and help grow your mechanic business? Our easy to follow guide covers all the nuts and bolts of the basics to understanding what SEO is, how it works and ultimately how you can use some of our tips to boost your business.

Ok, what’s the go with SEO?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation. If you’re familiar with searching for things in Google, then you will know that certain webpages will appear higher than others. The result pages are all trying to accurately match with the questions and keywords you searched for.

When creating websites and content for your business, keywords are essential to try and get the attention of your main audience and what they may be searching for. We will chat about this in greater detail below.

Our guide aims to help you to use some SEO tricks to get your mechanic business to rank high and get in front of potential customers.

Keyword research

Essentially, these are the words, terms, questions, phrases that people are typing into search engines. Spend time doing some research to know which keywords your business should be using. You can do this by writing down what is that your mechanic business does. The services you offer, your location, any specialisations. You want to identify what it is your ideal customer is looking for and provide a solution to their problem with your business offerings.

Keywords that are relevant to a mechanic business might be some of the following for example:

  • Mechanics in < location>
  • Car repairs
  • Mechanic repairs in <location>

Get Local

Often for specific services like a mechanics, people will be searching within a specific region and location. It is important that you include this in your online business information to help get found online. Make sure that the location of your business is mentioned within your website and any other online listings to help it get noticed in the relevant locations.

Content is king

This is a valuable way to add content and relevant keywords to your website. Consider adding things like a blog to your site to help answer some of the questions your customers might have about their vehicles.

Writing with your customer in mind and providing useful information for them also helps to build your brand awareness and reputation is a trustworthy business in the mechanic industry.

Get your Google My Business Profile up and going

If you haven’t already got a Google My Business Profile, now is the time to jump on board and get one. It is free and an invaluable way to get your business out there and noticed in the online sphere.

If you already have a profile or in the process of setting one up, make sure you check the Google Map Pack in the settings section of your profile. You want to make sure it has all the correct information like your keywords, location and details about your mechanic business.

Incorrect information in this section for things like the wrong address or incorrect opening hours can potentially lead to a negative review, so keeping an eye on the details and changing them as required is something to keep in mind.

Tips for optimising your website

These are quick and basic tips to apply when setting up your mechanic business website:

  • Homepage- ensure that your title tag includes all the vital information about your business, the name, location, and what you do. The remaining copy on your homepage should be roughly between 550-1000 words which provide an overview of what your business does, a bit of a back story to help your customers when they first land on your page.
  • Other pages- You will need to create individual pages for each of the specific services you provide to help with not only SEO, but to give your website more content. Including all the relevant information like that of the header on the homepage are still important.
